The ideal group size is between 2 and 6 people – but is not restricted to this. Children are welcome and will enjoy the various challenges.

After purchase, to begin your urban adventure in Old Montreal #1A, you must go to the Pointe-à-Callière Museum, 165 Place d’Youville, Old Montreal, QC, Canada, H2Y 2B2. It’s the starting point.

History

Montreal was founded in 1642 by Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve. Maisonneuve gave his name to many landmarks in this city including a large park north of the Olympic Stadium in the east end and to an east-west major artery that runs through downtown. This scavenger hunt, however, will keep you in Old Montreal.

Consequently, around the midway point, you will be standing in front of Maisonneuve’s statue. The hunt will take you from, what seems like, one end to the other of Old Montreal. You will walk along the Old Port and zig-zag through the narrow cobblestoned streets that are reminiscent of European cities. It might also, to a limited degree, remind you of New Orleans ’ French Quarter in certain areas. Throughout this scavenger hunt, you will learn fun historical facts while solving riddles and finding clues that will take you from one location to another.

Incidentally, did you know Montreal celebrated its 375th birthday in 2017? Moreover, did you know that in 2016 alone, Montreal hosted 717 film shoots from local productions to Hollywood and beyond?

The registration process was tedious because you had to sync your Viator purchase with the scavenger hunt website. But once we started it was fantastic! It took us to many places we would have just walked by and missed the back story if we did not have this guide. All in all, we walked 7 miles and leisurely took our time throughout the day by stopping at shops and cafes interspersed between our challenges. I gave it 4 stars because some of the clues were not exactly accurate which sent us on a wild goose hunt a few times. (Wrong st name “st Pierre” or confusing direction “east, west, left, right”) but we had such a great time and it really got us exploring. Definitely give this a try!
